Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror

Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror is the commercial sequel to the popular Tactical Ops modification for Unreal Tournament 2004.

The success of Tactical Ops 2 gave our team access to a full Unreal Engine license and the opportunity to publish it commercially. After spending several months extending the game play and polishing the user experience, it became available in retail stores in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror was particularly popular in Europe. In September 2002 the game made it into the top 10 of the German video game sales charts. While not a huge financial success, the product kick-started the professional careers of several team members, including myself.

The Abyss

The Abyss was a high-tech virtual reality entertainment system originally designed for theme parks and amusement arcades. It allowed users to experience their favorite PC video game in a fully immersive simulation with up to seven other players using 3-D stereoscopic head-mounted displays.

Due to its high complexity and price, the system was not a commercial success, but the technology was clearly ahead of its time.

The lacking commercial success of the Abyss as an entertainment system forced the company to search for other viable applications, and one such opportunity presented itself in military simulation and training, which was a well financed sector in the early to mid 2000’s.

Over the course of several years, the system was modified, upgraded and ruggedized to meet the requirements, and to become the Immersive Group Simulation (IGS).

Convoy Leadership Decision Trainer

The Convoy Leadership Decision Trainer (CLDT) is a military training simulator in a CAVE installation that was designed to train military service members on how to react in a variety of situations while conducting convoy operations in hostile urban environments. It integrated with a number of new and existing simulation hardware and software systems for an immersive computer-based training exercise.
